A composite bioreactor and a method of using same is described. The bioreactor (10) comprises a combination of a sulphur oxidising bacteria (SOB) bioreactor (12) directly on top of a sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB) bioreactor (14); the SOB bioreactor (12) comprising a heap of said soil to be remediated and having suitable microorganisms therein to react with and degrade contained contaminants; said SRB bioreactor comprising trough means (18) having support means to support said soil heap associated with an opening thereof, said support means having a permeable membrane (16) associated therewith to allow passage of liquid but substantially no soil and sulphur reducing bacteria within said trough means (18); and liquid and nutrient supply means to promote growth of said sulphur oxidising bacteria and said sulphate reducing bacteria within said composite bioreactor.
L'invention concerne un bioréacteur composite et son procédé d'u tilisation. Le bioréacteur (10) comprend une combinaison d'un bioréacteur de bactéries oxydant le soufre (SOB) placé directement sur la partie supérieure d'un bioréacteur (14) de bactéries réduisant le sulfate (SRB); le bioréacteur de SOB (12) renferme un amas de terre à régénérer ainsi que des micro-organismes appropriés en vue de faire réagir et de dégrader les contaminants qu'ils contiennent; le bioréacteur de SRB comporte une cuve (18) pourvue d'un dispositif supportant l'amas de terre et associé à une ouverture de la cuve, ce dispositif de support ayant une membrane perméable (16) pour permettre le passage du liquide, mais de peu de terre, et des bactéries réduisant le soufre dans la cuve (18). Un dispositif d'apport de liquide et de matières nutritives est prévu pour faciliter le développement des bactéries oxydant le soufre et des bactéries réduisant le sulfate dans le bioréacteur composite.
