ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel compositions of matter useful as biodegradable detergents are disclosed and the method of preparation there- of, Butadiene is condensed with allyl chloride or alcohol. The ring product is then alkylated with an olefin in the presence of a free-radical generating compound and hydrogen chloride. The alkyl substituted condensation product is then reacted with a sulfating agent, an alkali metal solvent of an oxygen acid of sulfur, or an alkoxylating agent of ethylene or propylene oxide.
