The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for treating biologically convertible matter by contacting same with microorganisms deposited and immobilized on support carriers. The apparatus is made of a bioreactor comprising three sections, namely a distribution chamber, a bioreactor chamber and a collection chamber. The bioreactor chamber comprises the above mentioned support carriers that are resistant against biodegradation. The modular bioreactor does not require mechanical aeration and may operate continuously, therefore reducing operation costs.

Cette invention se rapporte à une procédé et à un appareil servant à traiter des matières bioconvertibles, en mettant celles-ci en contact avec des micro-organismes déposés et immobilisés sur des supports. Cet appareil est constitué par un bioréacteur comprenant trois sections, c'est-à-dire une chambre de distribution, une chambre bioréacteur et une chambre collectrice. La chambre bioréacteur contient les supports mentionnés ci-dessus, lesquels résistent à la biodégradation. Ce bioréacteur modulaire ne nécessite aucune aération mécanique et il peut fonctionner en continu, réduisant ainsi les coûts d'exploitation.
