2064762 9103161 PCTABS00003 A method is provided for controlling the growth of weeds that comprises applying to the weeds a chemical such as a herbicide and a bacterial plant pathogen. Actions of the chemical facilitates opportunistic infection of the weeds by the phytopathogenic bacteria. This makes it possible to control a broad range of weed species using lower levels of herbicide than are needed when the herbicide is used alone. The range of weed species controlled may be greater than the spectrum controlled by the herbicide alone.
