Disclosed herein are compositions for incorporating biological molecules into coatings while retaining biological activity conferred by such biological molecules. Coatings according to the invention comprise whole cell material containing one or more phosphoric triester hydrolases, the whole cell material having been permeabilised so that contained hydrolases can exhibit their enzymatic activity in the coating.
