BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF MUSHROOM FLIES ABSTRACT Mushroom flies (sciarids, cecids and phorids) are the major insect pests of commercial mushroom cultivation throughout the world. Yield losses may result directly from fly larvae feeding on mycelia or mushrooms, or indirectly from the adult flies acting as vectors for the introduction of mites and diseases. The present invention therefore provides a method for the biological control of mushroom flies which method comprises applying an effective amount of at least one strain of Steinernema bibionis to the site at which control is required. This site usually comprises the mushroom bed.
