A biological fluid processing system (10) for the processing of biological fluid (such as blood) is disclosed. The biological fluid processing system (10) separates gases from the system to improve storage life, safety, and the quality of the processed biological fluid. The biological fluid processing system (10) increases the yield of the processed biological fluid by allowing recovery of biological fluid trapped in various elements of the system. A typical biological fluid processing system (10) includes a collection bag (11) with conduits (12, 15) connecting it to a second container (17) for receiving biological fluid. A functional biomedical device (14) may be included. A gas inlet (13) allows gas to be introduced into the system to recover the biological fluid trapped in the system. A gas outlet (16) allows gas to be purged from the system.
