ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A new biologically active substance designated FR-900156 is provided which is prepared by cultivating under aerobic conditions a FR-900156 substance producing strain belonging to the genus Streptomyces in a culture medium containing assimilable sources of carbon, nitrogen and inorganic salt; the new substance is useful in the therapeutic treatment of infectious diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms and of cancer in humans and animals.
