ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The material includes a protein-coated microporous polymeric membrane and a biologically active agent complexed with the protein material. The polymeric microporous membrane is biologically inactive. A typical example of a biologically active agent is an enzyme. Columns formed by layers of the material to perform useful biochemical reactions are disclosed and specific tests for uric acid and glucose using the material are described as well as apparatus useful in performing the tests.
