Synthesis methods for creating polymeric compounds comprising dihydroxyphenyl derivatives (DHPD), or DHPp i.e. polymers modified with DHPD, with desired surface active effects are described. The polymer backbone of DHPp has structural or performance features that can be tailored to control physical properties of DHPp, allowing it to be useful for different applications i.e. tissue adhesives or sealants, adhesion promoting coatings, and antifouling coatings.

La présente invention concerne des procédés de synthèse permettant de créer des composés polymériques contenant des dérivés de dihydroxyphényle (DHPD), ou des DHPp, c'est-à-dire des polymères modifiés avec le DHPD, présentant des effets de surface actifs souhaités. Le squelette polymérique des DHPp présente des caractéristiques de structure ou de performance qui peuvent être adaptées pour réguler les propriétés physiques des DHPp, leur permettant d'être utiles pour différentes applications, notamment comme adhésifs ou agents d'étanchéité de tissus, revêtements favorisant l'adhérence, et revêtements antisalissures.
