A method of recovering precious metal values from refractory sulfide ores is provided. The method includes the steps of separating clays and fines from a crushed refractory sulfide ore (12, 24), forming a heap from the refractory sulfide ore (18), bioleaching the heap to thereby oxidize iron sulfides contained therein (18), and hydrometallurgically treating the bioleached ore to recover the precious metal values. If sufficient quantity of precious metal values are contained in the separated clays and fines, these materials can be further processed to recover the precious metal values contained therein.

L'invention concerne un procédé de récupération de métaux précieux de pyrites réfractaires. Le procédé consiste à séparer les argiles et les fines d'une pyrite réfractaire concassée (12, 24), à former un amas à partir de cette dernière (18), à biolessiver ledit amas de manière à oxyder les pyrites qu'il contient, et à traiter de manière hydrométallurgique le minerai ainsi biolessivé de manière è récupérer les métaux précieux. Si les argiles et les fines séparées contiennent encore une quantité suffisante de métaux précieux, on peut les soumettre à un traitement ultérieur de manière à récupérer les métaux précieux qu'elles contiennent.
