The invention is directed to a system and method for separating and collecting one or more tissue specimens from a target site within a patient and flushing the specimen to remove blood, debris and the like before the specimen is removed from the biopsy device. The flow of flushing fluid to the tissue collector is preferably controlled to coincide with delivery of one or more specimens to the collecting tray or basket of the device or after the receipt of the specimen within the tissue collector to ensure that the fluid (16) is applied to a fresh specimen. The tissue tray or basket within the tissue collector (14) has an open or foraminous portion to facilitate removal of fluid, such as the applied fluid and blood, and other debris from the tissue specimens on the tray. Vacuum (22) is provided within the tissue collector, preferably under the tray to remove fluid and debris from the collector interior.
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant de séparer et de prélever un ou plusieurs spécimens tissulaires dans un site cible d'un patient, et de rincer le spécimen afin d'en éliminer le sang, les débris et analogues avant de l'extraire du dispositif de biopsie. L'écoulement de fluide de rinçage vers l'unité de collecte est de préférence régulé de manière à coïncider avec le transfert d'un ou de plusieurs spécimens dans le bac ou le tamis du dispositif après réception du spécimen dans l'unité de collecte de tissu afin d'assurer que le fluide (16) est appliqué à un spécimen frais. Le bac ou le tamis à tissu est placé dans le l'unité (14) de collecte de tissu et comporte une partie ouverte ou perforée facilitant l'évacuation de fluides tels que le fluide appliqué et le sang, ainsi que des autres débris joints au spécimen de tissu placé dans le bac. Ce système permet de créer un vide (22) dans l'unité de collecte, de préférence sous le bac à échantillon, pour évacuer le fluide et les débris hors de l'unité de collecte
