A bioreactor (10) for the ex vivo maintenance and growth of mammalian cells includes a disposable, self-contained cell cassette (10), a system manager, an incubator unit matable with a plurality of the cassettes (10) and a processor unit. The cell cassette (10) includes a substantially circular cell growth chamber defined between a substantially planar cell bed (25) and a gas permeable, liquid impervious membrane (50). A media inlet (44) enters the cell growth chamber and communicates at a radially central portion of the cell bed. A plurality of media outlets (48) are radially outwardly spaced from the media inlet (44) by a distance sufficient for cell growth to occur between the inlet and the outlets. The outlets are substantially equiangularly circumferentially spaced about the cell growth chamber.

Un bioréacteur (10) destiné à l'entretien et à la croissance ex vivo de cellules de mammifères comprend une cassette (10) de cellules jetable autonome, un gestionnaire de système, un incubateur adaptable à une pluralité des cassettes (10) ainsi qu'un processeur.
