At least one layer of a mono- or multilayered, bioriented film contains as film-forming polymers (A) from 75 to 100 percent of a linear ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer having a density of from 0.890 g/cm3 to 0.930 g/cm3 and (B) from 25 to 0 percent of a high density linear polyethylene having a density of from 0.935 g/cm3 to 0.960 g/cm3. All percentages are based on the total weight of (A) and (B). The total of the film-forming polymers (A) and (B) has a single melting point as determined by differential scanning calorimetry. The bioriented film is produced by biorienting a flat film in at least two steps first in one direction and then in the other direction. The bioriented film is useful in a process for packaging an article wherein the film is wrapped around the article, heat-shrunk and sealed.
