Abstract Drosophila melanogaster have been shown to express large quantities of foreign proteins from genes placed under divergent transcriptional control of host gene promoters. The chimeric genes are introduced into flightless mutant Drosophila through P-element transformation. Transformed adult females accumulate the protein in their hemolymph. The protein can be purified and recovered in high yield from the hemolymph by conventional techniques.
