A bipolar electrosurgical scissors has an improved coagulation capability. Both poles of electrosurgical energy are exposed on the exterior surfaces 17 of each shearing member so that the scissors can be used to coagulate tissue using only one shearing member. There may be two or more electrically conductive regions 22 on the exterior surface of each shearing member. The conductive regions 22 may be formed by laminating depositing or inlaying electrically conductive material on the exterior surfaces 17. The conductive regions 22 are electrically insulated from each other. In one embodiment the shearing surfaces 15 are also electrically conductive and are each connected to the same electrical pole. In another embodiment, the conductive material that forms one of the conductive regions 22 on each exterior surface also extends through the shearingmember to also form a conductive shearing surface 15.

L'invention porte sur des ciseaux électrochirurgicaux bipolaires qui permettent une meilleure coagulation. Les deux pôles d'énergie des ciseaux sont exposés sur les surfaces extérieures (17) de chaque élément de cisaillement de sorte que les ciseaux peuvent servir à coaguler des tissus en n'utilisant qu'un seul élément de cisaillement. Il peut y avoir deux ou plusieurs zones conductrices (22) sur la surface extérieure de chaque élément de cisaillement. Ces zones conductrices (22) peuvent être formées par laminage, déposition ou incrustation d'un matériau conducteur d'électricité sur les surfaces extérieures (17). Les zones conductrices sont isolées électriquement entre elles. Dans une réalisation, les surfaces de cisaillement (15) sont également conductrices d'électricité et chacune est raccordée au même pôle électrique. Dans une autre réalisation, le matériau conducteur qui forme une des zones conductrices (22) sur chaque surface extérieure s'étend aussi à travers l'élément de cisaillement afin de former également une surface de cisaillement (15) conductrice.
