-28- ABSTRACT Certain novel bipyridine substituted imidazoyli- dene compounds, their metal complexes (Cu, Fe and Ni) which are effective to improve feed efficiency and promote growth in food-producing animals, particularly ruminants. The compounds are described by the general formula Image in which R1 and R2 are hydrogen or phenyl, and in- cluding the cupric, nickelous and ferrous salts thereof, or are described by the general formula Image including the cupric, nickelous and ferrous salts thereof.
