ABSTRACT It has now been found that certain phos- phonate derivatives of bis(aminoalkyl)piperazines are good threshold agents to prevent metal ion pre- cipitation in aqueous solutions. They also func- tion as sequestering and/or chelating agents as do those which do not contain the phosphonate group. These compounds which have at least one of the amine hydrogens phosphonomethylated are employed as cement set retarding additives.
