ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Antimicrobial compounds are disclosed having the formula: Z-B-Y-B-Z ? rHA wherein B is carbamylguanidino or thiocarbamylguanidino, Y is a nitrogen-containing alkylene group having the structural formula: Image wherein: n = 2-4 m = 2-4 p = 1,2 q = 2-4 x = 0-3 y = 0-2 x = 0 when y ? 0 and y = 0 when x ? 0, and R is hydrogcn or a C1-C8 hydrocarbon radical selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, and aralkyl radicals, R' and R" are each hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl and may be the same or different and z is selected from the group consisting of C1-C12 alkyl, di(C1-C10 alkylamino)-C10-C2 having a total carbon content of C4-C12; C3-C12 alkenyl; C3-C12 alkynyl; C3-Cl2 cycloalkyl C4-C12 cycloalkylalkyl; C6-C12 cycloalkenyl, C7-Cl4 cycloalkenylalkyl, C8-C12 polycycloalkyl, C9-C14 polycycloalkylalkyl, C8-C12 polycyclo- alkenyl, C9-C14 polycycloalkenylalkyl, C1-C10 alkoxy-C10-C2 alkyl having a total carbon content of C3-C14; C1-C10 alkylthio-C10-C2 alkyl having a total carton content of C3-C14; phenoxy C2-C6 alkyl; phenylthio C2-C4 alkyl; C6-C14 aryl; C7-C14 aralkyl and arylcycloalkyl; C9-C12 benzocycloalkyl, and C6-C14 aryl and aralkyl substituted with one or more radicals selected from the group consisting of loweralkyl, trifluoromethyl, loweralkoxy, trifluoromethoxy, phenoxy, loweralkylthio, halo, nitro, cyano, C2-C6 acyl, benzoyl, alkoxycarbonyl, diloweralkylamino, loweralkylsulfonyl, fluorosulfonyl and alkylsulfinyl; r=0, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 1, 5/4, 4/3, 3/2, 5/3, 2, 5/2, 3, 4, 5 and HA is an inorganic or organic acid.
