Abstract of the Disclosure Bis-substituted succinamides having the formula Image in which X is chlorine or bromine; R1 and R3 are hydrogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or benzyl; R2 and R4 are hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, haloalkenyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, furfuryl, and tetrahydro- furfuryl; R1 and R2 taken together along with the nitrogen form a non-aromatic hetero- cyclic ring; R3 and R4 taken together along with the nitrogen form a non-aromatic hetero- cyclic ring; provided that when R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each alkyl, then one of R1 or R2 and one of R3 or R4 is other than methyl; further provided that only one of R1 or R2 is hydrogen and only one of R3 or R4 is hydrogen. Compounds of this invention are useful as herbicides and includes those compounds in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each methyl.
