Biscyclopentadienyl, Group 4 transition metal complexes are formed by contacting a biscyclopentadienyl Group 4 metal halide hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyloxy or amide complex with a conjugated diene. Uniquely, the ansa-rac diastereomer is selectively isolated and may be reconverted to the halide form if desired, When combined with standard activating cocatalysts or activated with an activating technique, the complexes form catalysts for polymerizing olefins, diolefins and/or acetylenically unsaturated monomers.

On forme des complexes biscyclopentadiényle de métaux de transition du groupe 4, en mettant en contact un complexe biscyclopentadiényle - métal du groupe 4 - halogénure, hydrocarbyle, hydrocarbyloxy ou amide avec un diène conjugué. On obtient uniquement et sélectivement le diastéréoisomère ansa-rac, que l'on peut convertir sous la forme halogénure lorsque cela est souhaité. Lorsqu'on combine ces complexes avec des co-catalyseurs d'activation conventionnels ou qu'on les active par une technique adaptée, ils forment des catalyseurs pour la polymérisation d'oléfines, de di-oléfines et/ou de monomères à insaturation acétylénique.
