A B S T R A C T Compounds of the formula I: Image wherein R represents a CO or CH2 group; R' represents a lower alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, optionally substituted by a phenyl group; and R" represents a lower alkyl group containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms optional- ly substituted by 1 or 2 phenyl groups, and process for their preparation by way of a Mannich reaction between an amine and a substituted 4-pyridone of formula Image These compounds find use in cardiac therapy as anti-arrhythmic agents.
