The present invention relates to novel, non-peptidic small organic compounds having an affinity for cyclophilin (CyP)-type immunophilin proteins. In the compounds of this invention, at least two carbo-or heterocyclic groups are attached to a central saturated, partially saturated, or aromatic 5-6 membered carbocyclic ring by a combination of straight or branched linker chains. The invention further relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising one or more of the said compounds, and to the uses of these compounds and compositions for binding CyP-type proteins, inhibiting their peptidyl-prolyl isomerase activity, and for research, development, and therapeutic applications in a variety of medical disorders, such as neurological disorders, hair loss disorders, ischemic disorders, and disorders caused by viral or protozoan infection.

La présente invention concerne de petits composés organiques non peptidiques nouveaux possédant une affinité pour les protéines immunophiline de type de cyclophiline (CyP). Dans les composés de ladite invention, au moins deux groupes carbocycliques ou hétérocycliques sont fixés à un noyau central carbocyclique, partiellement saturé, saturé, ou aromatique, à 5 ou 6 éléments, par une combinaison de chaînes de liaisons droites ou ramifiées. L'invention concerne également des compositions pharmaceutiques comprenant un ou plusieurs desdits composés, des utilisations de ces composés et des compositions permettant de lier des protéines de type CyP, d'inhiber leur activité de peptidyl-prolyle isomérase, et permettant la recherche, le développement, et des applications thérapeutiques dans une variété de troubles médicaux, tels que des troubles neurologiques, des troubles liés à la chute des cheveux, des troubles ischémiques, et des troubles causés par une infection virale ou par des protozoaires.
