The present application discloses a method of bit error rate (BER) monitoring a signal and an apparatus for implementing the method. The method includes the steps of asynchronously sampling the amplitude of the signal to be BER monitored to obtain a plurality of sampled values, and determining at least one of, a proportion of the sample values falling above an upper amplitude threshold, and a proportion of the sample values falling below a lower amplitude threshold, to derive a BER for the monitored signal.

Cette invention concerne un procédé de surveillance d'un signal relatif à un taux d'erreurs sur les bits (TEB) et un dispositif correspondant. Ce procédé consiste à échantillonner de manière asynchrone l'amplitude du signal dont le TEB doit être surveillé pour obtenir une pluralité de valeurs échantillonnées, et à déterminer au moins une proportion des valeur d'échantillon supérieur à une amplitude plafond, et au moins une proportion de valeurs d'échantillons inférieure à un amplitude plancher afin d'en déduire le TEB du signal surveillé.
