2092088 9202586 PCTABS00010 A bitumen emulsion having a viscosity of at least 200 cSt at 25 ·C which comprises bitumen, an emulsifying agent, an inorganic acid, water and from 0.1 to 3.0 wt% of a metal salt, the metal being selected from lithium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium and aluminium. Preferably, the metal salt is a chloride, for example calcium chloride. The emulsion is produced using a static mixing process.
