The invention provides for separating bitumen from a bitumen feed. An inclined plate separator (IPS) provides a first bitumen separation stage, and has an inlet for receiving the feed, an overflow outlet for providing a first bitumen rich stream, and an underflow outlet for providing a first bitumen lean stream. A cyclone provides a second bitumen separation stage, and has a cyclone inlet in fluid communication with the underflow outlet of the IPS for receiving the IPS underflow, a cyclone overflow outlet for providing a second bitumen rich stream and a cyclone underflow outlet for providing a second bitumen lean stream. The cyclone overflow outlet is in fluid communication with the IPS inlet for recycling the second bitumen rich stream from the cyclone to the IPS. A blending region is provided for modulating a composition of the second bitumen rich stream before it is recycled to the IPS.
L'invention consiste à séparer le bitume d'une alimentation en bitume. Un séparateur à plaques inclinées (SPI) offre un premier stade de séparation du bitume et possède une entrée pour recevoir l'alimentation, une sortie de surverse pour offrir un premier courant riche en bitume, et une sortie de sousverse pour fournir un premier courant pauvre en bitume. Un cyclone offre un deuxième stade de séparation du bitume et comporte une entrée de cyclone en communication fluide avec la sortie de la sousverse du SPI pour recevoir la sousverse du SPI, une sortie de surverse de cyclone pour fournir un deuxième courant de bitume et une sortie de sousverse de cyclone pour fournir un deuxième courant en bitume pauvre. La sortie de la surverse du cyclone est en communication fluide avec l'entrée du SPI pour recycler le deuxième courant riche en bitume venant du cyclone au SPI.
