A blade protector for use on the blade of a hockey stick comprises a pair of substantially vertical and spaced apart side walls defining a cavity therebetween for receiving the blade of the hockey stick, the two side walls being integrally connected at their lower ends by a substantially horizontal web which is designed to elevate the blade of ground to prevent the blade from becoming damaged when the hockey stick is used on ground surfaces, such as asphalt and cement. Typically, two blade protectors are provided on the hockey blade, that is at the front and at the heel of the blade. The web of the blade protector defines a recess dimensioned to accommodate hockey tape which is used to secure the blade protector to the blade by surrounding the blade protector and the hockey blade. As the tape is lodged in the recess of the web, ridges defined on the web outwardly of the recess prevent the tape from contacting the ground surface. The blade protector may be curved to follow a curve of the blade. An upper surface of the web located between the side walls of the blade protector may be concave such as to follow the convex lower edge of the hockey blade.
