A bladeless turbocharger (10) is disclosed for use with an internal combustion engine. The apparatus includes a drive shaft (13) engaged with a bearing assembly (14) that has a turbine driven by the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine at one end and a blower (12) driven by the turbine (11) at the other. The turbine (11) and blower (12) have a flat disks (16) spaced at a critical distance apart with open circular centers that have spokes mounting them to the drive shaft. The critical distance between the turbine disks (16) promotes the boundary layer drag effect of the exhaust gas against the turbine disks (16). The blower transfers rotational energy to air entering the critical distance between the blower disks by boundary layer drag effect of the air against the blower disks (7) only. The energy transfer increases the mass per unit volume of the air that exits the blower through outlet.
L'invention porte sur un turbocompresseur (10) sans pales comportant: un arbre moteur (13) engagé dans un ensemble de paliers (14) et muni à une extrémité d'une turbine mue par les gaz d'échappement d'un moteur à combustion interne et à l'autre extrémité d'une soufflante (12) entraînée par la turbine (11). La turbine (11) et la soufflante (12) sont constituées de disques plats (16) espacés d'une distance critique présentant une ouverture circulaire centrale et munis de rayons les reliant à l'arbre moteur. La distance critique entre les disques de la turbine (16) provoque un effet de traînée de couche limite des gaz d'échappement sur les disques (16). La soufflante transfert l'énergie de rotation sur l'air traversant la distance critique séparant ses disques par effet de traînée de couche limite de l'air sur lesdits disques (17). Ce transfert d'énergie accroît la masse par unité de volume de l'air quittant la soufflante par son orifice de sortie.
