A cartridge for use in non-lethal applications comprises an anterior portion and a posterior portion. The posterior portion of the cartridge includes a recycling mechanism which is initiated on activation of a first primer. The anterior portion comprises a source of energetic material which is initiatable by a reaction produced on activation of the first primer to create an audible and/or visible signal.
