ABSTRACT A beta-attenuation densitometer is disclosed. The densitometer includes a source of beta radiation and a beta detector arranged to receive radiation from the source. The detector includes a scintillator that is caused to fluoresce by the radiation and a photomultiplier tube that detects the light emitted by the scintillator. The scintillator and photomultiplier are contained within a light-tight housing. Shock absorbing potting material protects the tube against damage.
