ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides a blasting agent comprising ammonium nitrate, a fuel and a thickener therefor, the fuel comprising a nitroalkane of 1 to 3 carbon atoms and fuel oil and the thicke-ner comprising bentonite. This composition does not have the tendency for ammonium nitrate and nitroalkane to separate that hitherto caused such mixtures to loose sensitiv- ity and their effectiveness as blasting agents with the passage of time.
