ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The BOD level of black liquor condensates in pulp mill wherein bleach plant effluents are introduced to the black liquor re overy operation is decreased to a very low level by combining the most contaminated condensates from the black liquor concentration step and steam stripping methanol from the mixture. The stripped condensate then may be used elsewhere in the mill.
