ABSTRACT Bleed-fast, dyed cellulosics particularly absorbent papers have been obtained with a particular class of water- soluble, cationic dyes reacted with a water-soluble dialde- hyde, preferably glyoxal or glutaraldehyde. An aqueous printing fluid containing the water-soluble cationic dye and the dialdehyde, upon drying, produces a water-resistant dyestuff having improved bleed fastness upon cellulosic fibers. The water-soluble, cationic dye is one which has a functional lower alkylene amine group capable of reacting with glyoxal or glutaraldehyde to enhance the bleed fast- ness of the dyestuff on cellulosic fibres.
