ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and apparatus is provided for blending solid particulate material in a vessel which includes a center lift column and a first downcomer channel which includes n successive vertical sections and n flow ports respective located at a top portion of the n sections. The n sections include withdrawal structure for providing a volumetric outlet flow rate which includes a flow rate contribution from each of the n sections which is 1/n of the outlet flow rate. The apparatus can also include a second channel which includes a plurality of vertically spaced inlets fox receiving particulate material from different vertical locations within a blending vessel of the apparatus and an outlet for returning particulate material to the lower part of the vessel, with each of the inlets of the second channel including a baffle extending into an internal flow area of the channel. A discharge spout is connected to the outlet of the second channel and recycles a portion of the particulate material at the outlet to the lower part of the vessel and withdraws another part of the particulate material at the outlet to a conveying line outside the vessel.
