ABSTRACT This invention is a blend of cationic and anionic water-soluble nitrogen-containing polymers for use in a process to prepare hydrophilic polyolefin fibers. Hydrophilic polyolefin fibers may be prepared for example, by discharging a heated and pressurized solution of an anionic polyolefin composition containing carboxylic functionality into a zone of reduced tem- perature and pressure, and then modifying the fibers so produced by treatment with a blend of the present invention. Further blending of the hydrophilic fibers with wood pulp provides paper products having improved physical pro- perties.
