A method of binding book blocks to form books is disclosed. The method involves applying an aqueous composition to the spine area of a book block and removing the volatile components of the composition. The composition comprises (1) an aqueous vehicle, a film-forming polymeric resin, and a polyurethane resin or (2) an aqueous polyurethane dispersion or emulsion. The composition may also include an alkaline component. In another embodiment, the composition comprises a mixture of an aqueous, film-forming polymeric latex, an alkaline component to adjust the pH of the latex to that of an aqueous polyurethane dispersion, and the aqueous polyurethane dispersion.
Méthode pour relier les blocs constitutifs de livres, consistant à appliquer une composition aqueuse sur le dos des blocs et à éliminer les constituants volatils de la composition. La composition renferme (1) un véhicule aqueux, une résine polymérique formant une pellicule et une résine de polyuréthane, ou (2) une dispersion ou une émulsion de polyuréthane aqueux. La composition peut également renfermer un constituant alcalin. Dans une autre version, la composition renferme un mélange d'un latex aqueux ne formant pas de pellicule, un constituant alcalin pour ajuster le pH du latex à celui d'une dispersion aqueuse de polyuréthane et la dispersion aqueuse de polyuréthane.
