Abstract The invention relates to a block brake for rail vehicles in which a brake linkage, acted on by a brake cylinder, acts of at least one wheel set (1) of the bogie of the rail vehicle via brake blocks (14) consisting of brake block shoes (13) and brake block shoe insert (12). The objective of the invention consisted in arranging the block brake, which is economical per se, in a rail vehicle and constructing it in such a way that higher braking capacities can be achieved, that damage to the tyres of the wheels of the wheel set (1) are avoided and that the wheel noise of the wheel sets (1) is minimized. This objective is achieved in that at least one rotationally symmetrical brake body (7) is arranged fixedly on the wheel set shaft (2) of the wheel set (1) between the wheel discs (3) of the wheel set (1), on the outer face (8) of which brake body (7) the acted-on brake block (14) rests.
