ABSTRACT High molecular weight block copolymers of L(-)-lactide and glycolide are prepared by reacting a high glycolide-low L(-)-lactide copolymer with a high L(-)-lactide-low glycolide copolymer in the presence of an ester interlinking agent. The block coploymer so obtained may be extruded to form filaments useful in the preparation of absorbable sutures.
