An alarm that will warn a motorist that the block heater is plugged in before driving away is activated when both first and second signals are being received. A sensor detects the presence of household power in the block heater circuit and sends the first signal to the alarm when household power is present in the circuit. The alarm is connectable to a selected electrical circuit of the automobile which will be activated before driving the automobile, such as an ignition circuit or brake light circuit. When the selected automobile circuit is activated the second signal is sent to the alarm. Thus when both the household power is present in the block heater circuit, and the selected automobile circuit is activated, the alarm is activated to warn the operator that the block heater cord is still plugged in and must be unplugged before driving away. An indicator may be combined with a flowing current sensor of the system to indicate that current is actually flowing to the block heater.
