The present invention is an apparatus for splitting blocks comprising a frame, a vertically movable lower blade carrier, an upper blade, and a pressure generating mechanism. Two fixed yokes are positioned at opposing ends of the lower blade carrier and carry the lower blade carrier along two threaded rods. The two threaded rods are linked so that their rotation is synchronized, The pressure mechanism causes the upper blade to generate pressure on the block between the upper and lower blades.
