Disclosed are blocked polyisocyanates having a free NCO content of less than 2% by weight in which the NCO groups are blocked with .alpha.-hydroxycarboxylic acid esters of the general formula: Image (I) (in which R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or aryl group and R3 is alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or aryl group). The blocked polyisocyanates are useful as adhesive or coating materials.
