A blocking lateral for pneumatic conveying systems. The blocking lateral includes a pneumatically operated blocking valve having a slide plate that can be positioned in the main line path to block flow of materials downstream. The valve is positioned on a lateral such that when the slide plate extends into the lateral, it forms a wall on the interior of the lateral coincident with the point at which the offshoot intersects the main line of the lateral.
