A method for producing a biaxially oriented, heat set plastic container, including the steps of providing a plastic preform within a mold cavity; expanding and stretching the plastic preform into conformity with the surfaces defining the mold cavity to form a biaxially oriented plastic container; inducing crystallinity in the plastic container by using convection heat transfer to heat a surface of the plastic container to a temperature of at least 120 ~C; and removing the plastic container from the mold cavity. The PET containers produced by the method have an average sidewall crystallinity greater than about 30 %, which allows the PET container to maintain is material integrity during any subsequent pasteurization or retort process of the contents in the PET container, and during shipment of the PET container.

Procédé de production d'un récipient en plastique thermodurci, orienté dans le sens biaxial. Ledit procédé consiste à prévoir une préforme en plastique dans une cavité de moule ; à dilater et à étirer la préforme en plastique, de sorte qu'elle épouse les surfaces délimitant la cavité du moule et qu'un récipient en plastique orienté dans le sens biaxial soit formé ; à induire la cristallinité dans le récipient en plastique, par transfert de chaleur de convection, de sorte qu'une surface du récipient en plastique soit portée à une température d'au moins 120 ·C ; et à enlever le récipient en plastique de la cavité du moule. Les parois latérales des récipients en PET produits par ledit procédé présentent une cristallinité moyenne supérieure à environ 30 %, ce qui permet au récipient en PET de conserver son intégrité matérielle au cours d'une pasteurisation ultérieure ou d'un procédé en autoclave, quel qu'il soit, appliqué sur le contenu du récipient en PET, et au cours du transport de celui-ci.
