ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Liquid or readily liquefiable mixtures of quaternary ammonium borohydrides are disclosed, selected from those falling within the formula: Image wherein R1, R2 and R3 may be the same or different and each is selected from alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl and aralkyl groups and R4 is selected from alkyl and alkenyl groups having from 6 to 30 carbon atoms, with the proviso that R1, R2, R3 and R4 are not all alkyl, and with the further proviso that the compounds of each said mixture vary only with respect to group R4. The new borohydride mixtures are prepared by either mixing a borohydride salt and a mixture of quaternary ammonium salts in alkaline aqueous solution and extracting the resulting quaternary amine borohydride mixture with an organic solvent or by reacting finely divided borohydride salt with an organic solution of a mixture of quaternary ammonium salts.
