A word puzzle or game in three dimensions, enclosed within the form of a right parralelepiped or rectangular solid containing unknown words or phrases each having associated definitions constituting clues or synonyms for the solving of each individual word or phrase portion of the puzzle such as is the object of a conventional crossword puzzle, with construction such that a method is provided for the publishing and subsequent solving of the three dimensional word puzzle upon any two dimensional media surface (e.g. magazines, newspapers, video screens). Three numerical indicia associated with each individual word or phrase portion represent the x, y, and z position of the starting cell W thin the rectangular solid puzzle object of each such word or phrase portion. The clues for solution of these word or phrase portions are separated into three groups, one group of clues being given for each of the three directions: x - Across, y - Down, and z - In, and the group wherein the clue is contained defines the direction of the word or phrase portion referenced. This provides a method whereby the entire puzzle may be solved by solution of the X (across) and Y (down) clues together, or by the Z (in) clues alone, or by judicious combinations of all clues. The sequential presentation of vertical cross- sections or 'slices' provides solvers of the puzzle with a virtual three dimensional puzzle surface, and when these 'slices' are printed on sequential media pages requires them to repeatedly access a range of pages. When this publication is in media such as newspapers or magazines this process is much to the benefit of advertizers and publishers.
