ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A boat deck surface covering comprising at least two layers which are applied one over the other. The layers consist of: (a) slow hardening elastic resin, such as epoxy resin; (b) hardener or curing agent for the epoxy resin, and (c) a solid particulate, finely divided filler material of low density. The boat deck surface covering can be applied as follows: one or more lower layers of the composition is allowed to harden fully and then one or more subsequent layers are built up, but only after each layer has hardened. A special use of this process involves providing an underlayer with a certain coloring agent or pigment for the simulation of white or black gap material, which is exposed through narrow voids in the top wood plank-simulating surface layer, to produce a surface covering simulating a wooden plank pattern.
