ABSTRACT A holder for a bobbin of packaging material or the like having a central opening for connection to the holder. The holder has two laterally engaging clamping jaws connected to a single lifting mechanism which provides that, in successive phases of movement, the clamping jaws are moved into engage- ment with the bobbin and then the clamping jaws cause, by engagement with the bobbin, a displacement of the force exerted by the lifting mechanism so that the jaws are lifted together with the bobbin from a supported position to a working position. Both phases of movement are provided by a continued movement of an operating lever of the lifting mechanism from one end position to another. The holder is of simplified construction, is easier to handle and is more reliable.
