This invention is treating a patient by collecting a bodily sample from deep within the body of a patient and collecting the sample outside the body to facilitate treatment of the patient. A sampling probe (2) is provided in the form of an elongate catheter (4) having a proximal portion that remains outside the body and a distal portion that can be located within the body. The distal portion includes a balloon (8) with polymer (16) thereon capable of recieving a substantial amount of bodily sample.

L'invention a pour objet le traitement d'un patient, et plus précisément, le prélèvement d'un échantillon corporel depuis l'intérieur du corps du patient, et la collecte de ce prélèvement à l'extérieur de son corps pour faciliter le traitement. Une sonde d'échantillonnage (2) est prévue sous forme d'un cathéter allongé (4) dont une partie proximale reste à l'extérieur du corps et une partie distale peut être placée à l'intérieur du corps. La partie distale comprend un ballon (8) recouvert de polymère (16), prévu pour recevoir un quantité importante de ce prélèvement.
