ABSTRACT Disclosed is a body implantable lead having a polymer- based gel electrode. The electrode has advantages over metal electrodes such as less tissue damage and avoidance of polarization phenomena. The lead has a lead body, an exterior of insulating material, and a body of conductive polymer gel carried by the lead body for providing electrical contact between the lead and living tissue. An electrical lead extends through the lead body and is interiorally connected to the polymer gel body.
