Abstract Disclosed is a body implantable lead having a polymer-based gel DCD (Differential Current Density) electrode. The electrode avoids the polarization phenomena associated with metal electrodes and has other advantages such as reduced tissue trauma and low cost. The electrode comprises a conductive poly- meric electrode body having a large electrical contact portion and a small tissue contact portion. The contact portion is enclosed in a metal member which is connected to an electrical lead. The metal member is enclosed in insulation except for an opening provided for the tissue contact portion.
